Travelling by plane has always been a hot topic when it comes to impact on the environment. After all, plane burns fuel that makes carbon and then the carbon makes people mad. Especially the climate activists. Governments around the world have stepped in with many different environmental policies to make flying “greener”. But do these policies really help, or are they making flights way more expensive and complicated? In this article we will break it down.

The push for greener skies

Planes pump out a lot of Co2 which contributes to climate changes. Because of this, many countries have started to implement new regulations that force airlines to cut emissions. The EU also has introduced more strict carbon offset requirements while some governments have introduced extra taxes on flights. But what is the goal here? Making flying more eco-friendly. And what is the actual reality? Well, that’s complicated.

While airlines are required to reduce their carbon footprint, the cost is really high. Some have started using biofuels which are more sustainable, but even more than that – expensive. Others are investing in carbon offset programs funding environmental projects to balance out their emissions. After all, it’s a step forward even though not cheap.

Here’s the thing, going green isn’t that cheap as many people think. Now the airlines have to spend more on biofuels, new aircrafts and fees for those same emissions. And who’s wronged in that situation? You, the passenger. After all, you’re the one footing the bill here. Ticket prices are going up and up, and the budget airlines known for their low cost flights are feeling the squeeze heavily. Some routes are even being cancelled because they no longer make the financial sense.

These costs ain’t stopping the fuel however. The new fuel-efficient planes are being designed but they are also very expensive to build. Airlines have to pass these costs onto passengers, which means flights are no longer as cheap as they used to be.

More delays, more rules

Environmental rules aren’t just about cutting the emissions. Some airports now have limited night flights to reduce noise offering fewer flight options. New rules on sustainable aviation fuel are forcing the airlines to rethink supply chains which leads to a potential delays and logistical issues.

Now flying is also getting more limited. Some countries are cutting down on short flights and encouraging people to take trains instead. While trains can be a great alternative they’re not always ideal for the long trips or far destinations.

The aviation industry is investing more in new technologies in the name of reduce emissions. Those investments include electric planes, hydrogen fuel and improved aerodynamics. However, these innovations are still many years away from being widely used. In the meantime, the airlines will have to deal with environmental taxes, high fairs and possible route changes.

Some airlines are testing hybrid planes that use both electric power and normal fuel to improve the efficiency. Others are exploring carbon capture technology to store emissions instead of releasing them into the atmosphere (which is usually the case). However, these technologies are still in their developing stage and aren’t widely available.

For now passengers have a few options, first one is the customer to pay more and accept the high ticket price, second is to choose airlines that invest into greener solutions and third one is to claim compensation when flight is delayed or cancelled due to the new regulations. And this is the part we come in!

How MYFLYRIGHT helps

We at MYFLYRIGHT understand that passengers are dealing with more disruptions than ever before. The environmental policies are good for the planet, there’s no denying that, but this also means that more and more flights are getting cancelled or face unexpected delays. If your flight ever gets affected, you might be entitled to compensation for that and we are here to make sure that you get it. No hassle, no headache, just getting the compensation that you deserve!

Our team of professionals specializes in handling the flight compensation claims. No matter delay due to new aviation regulations, cancellation caused by airline’s policies change, or unexpected rerouting. We’ve got you covered at all times!

Environmental policies are changing the plane travel. While these policies are meant to make flying more eco friendly and protect Mother Nature, they also lead to much higher costs, strict regulations and even more complications. The future of aviation might be less appealing, but passengers will have to adapt regardless. If these changes disrupt your travel plans, MYFLYRIGHT is here to help you!
