EasyJet's milestone at Birmingham Airport
In an exciting development for travelers, easyJet has announced a significant milestone: the airline has successfully transported five million passengers through Birmingham Airport. This achievement comes as the airline prepares to inaugurate its new base at the airport in March 2024, a move that promises to enrich its service offerings and connectivity.
New chapter begins
EasyJet, a leading low-cost airline, is on the brink of an exciting expansion at Birmingham Airport. By March 2024, the airline will establish a base at the airport, housing aircraft and crew for the very first time. This strategic move will introduce 16 additional destinations to easyJet's network from Birmingham, enhancing the travel options for UK passengers.
Surprise and delight - Celebrating five million passengers
The celebration of this milestone included a special surprise for two fortunate passengers, who were gifted return flights to any destination within easyJet's extensive network. This gesture not only commemorated the five million passenger mark but also showcased the airline's commitment to rewarding its customers.
Tom Screen, Aviation Director at Birmingham Airport, expressed his pleasure in celebrating this achievement. He highlighted the significance of this milestone as a testament to the growing partnership between the airport and easyJet, emphasizing the positive impact on the regional travel ecosystem.
Journey through time
EasyJet's journey at Birmingham Airport began 17 years ago, with its inaugural flight taking passengers from Birmingham to Geneva in 2007. Fast forward to 2024, and the airline is set to open its new base on March 18, marking a significant expansion of its operations. The establishment of a three-aircraft base will enable easyJet to launch 16 new routes, including destinations like Antalya in Turkey, Barcelona in Spain, and Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt. Ultimately, easyJet aims to connect the UK Midlands to 29 diverse destinations across the UK, Europe, and North Africa, offering travelers an array of choices for their journeys.
Expanding horizons
Ali Gayward, easyJet's UK Country Manager, shared the company's enthusiasm for this landmark achievement. He expressed excitement about the opportunities the new base will bring, including offering customers an expanded network of destinations and maintaining the airline's commitment to providing value, convenience, and choice. The anticipation for welcoming passengers aboard to explore new destinations underscores easyJet's dedication to enhancing the travel experience.
A boost for employment and holiday options
The establishment of easyJet's new base at Birmingham Airport is not just a win for travelers but also for the local economy. The creation of approximately 100 new jobs for pilots and cabin crew, along with over 1,200 indirect employment opportunities, signifies a substantial economic contribution. Moreover, easyJet Holidays, the airline's sister company and a rapidly growing tour operator, stands to benefit significantly. The new base will enable the expansion of its holiday package offerings, providing thousands more holiday and city break options from Birmingham. With a portfolio set to include breaks to over 100 European destinations and a selection of up to 5,000 hotels, travelers will have unparalleled choices for their vacations.
Looking forward
As easyJet prepares to open its new base at Birmingham Airport, the excitement is palpable among travelers, employees, and the broader community. This expansion not only signifies a milestone in easyJet's journey but also heralds a new era of travel options, economic growth, and holiday experiences for the Midlands. With a broader network of destinations, enhanced employment opportunities, and an expanded holiday offering, easyJet's new base is set to transform the travel landscape in the region, promising an exciting future for all involved.
