American Airlines check-in
You can check into American Airlines flights online, on your mobile device, or at the airport either by using a self-check-in machine or directly at the check-in counter.
When you demand special services onboard the plane or are travelling with pets, make sure to check in at the check-in counter in the airport.
American Airlines online check-in
Online check-in is possible 24 hours prior to scheduled flight departure and makes it possible for you to pick your seat and either print out your boarding pass or receive it in mobile version (be aware that not all airports have mobile check-in as a choice).
American Airlines: Check in with mobile
Mobile check-in allows you to check in for your flight and download the boarding pass in your own time. Possible from 24 hours ahead of take-off, you can check in, choose a seat, and get your mobile boarding pass, all on your mobile phone. Mobile check-in is not available in all airports, so it is important to check this when getting ready for your trip.
A paper boarding pass can be collected at a check-in machine (if available in the departure airport) or at the airline check-in desk, in case something fails with your mobile boarding pass. If you are experiencing troubles with your phone, or have accidentally deleted your boarding pass, the above also applies.
American Airlines flight check-in machines
These are the screens you may use to check in at the airport. Always check that check-in machines are available prior to arriving at the departure airport. Most check-in machines enable you to check in with either your passport or your last name and booking reference, which you will find on your booking confirmation.
American Airlines check-in time & deadlines
So as to keep flights punctual, check-in deadlines are essential. Make sure you have your boarding pass and have checked in any baggage prior to the deadline, whether you checked in on your mobile device, at the check-in desk, or at a check-in machine.
American Airlines baggage allowance
The class of your flight ticket determines the number of carry-on baggage items you are permitted on an American Airlines flight. Carry-on baggage is required to conform to airline regulations. When your baggage does not conform to American Airlines' carry-on regulations, you should check it in at the airline desk or, if possible, at a self-service bag drop kiosk. You may need to pay extra charges for this.
American Airlines tracking baggage / damaged bags
Damaged or delayed baggage has to be declared straight away at the American Airlines baggage tracing desk or the airline's service desk. Take care to keep hold of each flight document, especially your baggage claim tag and boarding pass.
A reference number of your claim, as well as confirmation in writing, is always required. Make sure you have this till receiving your baggage or your claim is settled.
Another method to enforce a claim for difficulties with baggage is to make the claim using the help of MYFLYRIGHT, more details can be found here.
American Airlines travel classes
A travel class describes the quality of accommodation onboard the aircraft. The choice of classes offered to the passenger depends on the airline. Passengers may pick from American Airlines' 4 travel classes – Economy, Premium Economy, Business, and First Class. Cabin classes are then also split into invisible booking classes, which have differing services.
American Airlines airport lounges
Four kinds of lounges are available with American Airlines – Flagship® Lounge, Flagship® First Dining, Admirals Club®, and Arrivals Lounges.
Travelling with children on American Airlines flights
Children aged two (2) and above must have a separate seat reserved.
Be aware that some countries have particular regulations regarding minors landing in or departing from that country, who are travelling on their own, with a parent, or with an adult without parental authority.
Ahead of travelling, make sure you have all necessary travel documents, to check you are not refused entry or exit by the country.
Travelling with pets on American Airlines flights
Travelling with pets with American Airlines is allowed, but only with cats and dogs, with an exception of several breeds.
You can travel with pets with an extra charge as extra carry-on baggage or for transport inside the cargo hold – but this is dependent on the weight and scale of the animal, in addition to country and other airline restrictions.
