According to Cirium's latest on-time performance report, Avianca, the Colombian carrier, claimed the title of the world's most punctual airline in June. Demonstrating an impressive on-time performance (OTP) rate of 86.61%, Avianca outperformed other major carriers, including LATAM Airlines and Qatar Airways, which secured second and third place with OTPs of 86.54% and 85%, respectively.

Cirium's on-time performance measurement

Cirium, a renowned aviation data provider, calculates on-time performance by assessing flights that arrive within 15 minutes of their scheduled gate arrival time. This metric allows for a comprehensive evaluation of airlines' punctuality, factoring in potential delays and their impact on passengers' travel experiences. Airlines, on average, often add extra time to their scheduled flight durations to mitigate delays and minimize the disruption to passengers.

Global airline rankings and top 10 performers

Among the global airlines tracked by Cirium, Avianca claimed the top spot in June, followed closely by LATAM Airlines and Qatar Airways. The top ten performers included All Nippon Airways, Saudia, Japan Airlines, Emirates, Delta Air Lines, KLM, and Aeromexico, demonstrating the remarkable achievements of these carriers in maintaining punctual operations. In total, Cirium monitored 330,278 flights worldwide during the month.

Regional on-time performance highlights

In the Asia-Pacific region, Japan's All Nippon Airways secured the top position with an impressive 84.29% on-time arrival performance. Meanwhile, Alaska Airlines topped the rankings in North America with an 80.33% on-time performance and a completion factor of 99.79%. European airlines saw LOT - Polish Airlines leading the pack with an on-time arrival performance of 82.72%, followed by Norwegian Air Shuttle and Iberia Airlines.

Surprisingly, despite Avianca's global achievement, it was Copa Airlines, the Panamanian flag carrier, that secured the top spot in the Latin America region with a remarkable 89.46% on-time arrival performance. Avianca and LATAM Airlines followed closely behind, reaffirming their strong positions in the market. In the Middle East & Africa, Oman Air emerged as the regional leader with an outstanding 93.57% on-time arrival performance, ahead of Royal Jordanian and Safair.

Low-cost carriers' on-time performance

Cirium also assessed low-cost carriers (LCCs) worldwide, with Japan's StarFlyer leading the pack with an impressive 90.82% on-time performance. Solaseed Air and Hong Kong Express also excelled in maintaining punctuality with performances of 89.68% and 87.74%, respectively.

As the aviation industry continues to prioritize punctuality and passenger experience, Avianca's outstanding performance in June highlights the efforts made by airlines to deliver timely and reliable services. With operational excellence, strategic planning, and skilled personnel, airlines worldwide can learn from Avianca's achievements to enhance their on-time performance and customer satisfaction. Cirium's monthly reports provide valuable insights that drive continuous improvement in the industry, fostering a culture of reliability and efficiency.
